I know that I can preform a "safety-fight" and it will protect me for one hour, but what can I do to keep from getting attacked when I am asleep or at school?

Well the best thing to do before you log off is to spend most of your gold on like potions which is not a complete waste because if you are saving up for something you can sell the potions back

No you would buy potions then save the potions for a war.
